SNL commissioned HSMM to program and design a new state-of-the-art 31,000 gsf WETL facility that includes static free rooms, explosion proof "boom room", chemistry and explosives laboratories, liquid CO2 distribution system, and high-bay area with bridge cranes.
HSMM provided preliminary design, final design, and construction phase services required for the new WETL. The design divides the facility into three functional areas: Testing System and Support, Computer Support and Communications, and Administration. HSMM provided programming, space planning, site analysis (including topographic survey, subsurface investigations, field investigations and 3-D computer modeling with fly-arounds), renderings, energy analysis, life-cycle-cost studies, physical model, and construction scheduling and cost estimating services.
An integrated, whole-building design approach was used on the project to ensure that sustainable elements were incorporated into the WETL design. The project has attained a certified-level by the U. S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®). HSMM and SNL also implemented an integrated team approach to the planning, design, and documentation of the WETL project. A "Virtual Project Office" (VPO) was established by the design team to facilitate on-line design review and communication. |
