The $96 million design-build WMATA Blue Line Extension to Largo-Addison Route project is part of the largest construction program in WMATA’s history ($456M). The project includes two new metro stations and platforms;  a multi-level, 2,200-vehicle parking structure; and a 10,020-square-foot daycare center for Metro’s final 3.1-mile extension of the Blue Line light rail commuter line in suburban Prince George’s County, Maryland.

HSMM/STV, A Joint Venture, was responsible for designing the new facilities. HSMM provided the design project management, design coordination, and construction administration for the joint venture.  In addition, HSMM performed the design and construction phase services for the architectural work on the Largo Town Center Station and Morgan Childcare Center; structural work for the Largo Station, Largo Parking Structure, and Childcare Center; mechanical and electrical work for the Childcare Center; and the ISO 9001-compliant Quality Control for the architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and fire protection engineering services for the entire project.

The project was designed and built under an extremely aggressive completion schedule, stringent quality control requirements, and significant budget constraints.  This required close coordination with all project participants and stakeholders to ensure that all program objectives were met and that the entire project would be ready in time for the 2005 Presidential Inauguration.  The stations and parking facilities were dedicated and opened for service to the community by WMATA during public ribbon-cutting ceremonies on December 18, 2004, one month ahead of the Presidential Inauguration.
