Bowe Street Parking Deck and Arts Foundation Studio

The Bowe Street Parking Deck at Virginia Commonwealth University is a unique campus building, providing structured parking for 440 cars as well as teaching, studio and computer lab spaces for the university's Art Foundation program. A weight training facility is also included to serve the Athletic Department and nearby Sports Medicine Facility.

Located at the periphery of VCU's downtown campus, the building responds to the site's urban and campus contexts. As part of the design effort, HSMM conducted extensive programming and design workshops with VCU user groups, exploring alternative concepts and building consensus for the preferred solution. The new building echoes the architecture of nearby campus buildings and also responds to an adjacent historic residential area. The design received enthusiastic endorsement from the Art and Architectural Review Board and VCU's Board of Visitors. |
