Franklin County YMCA

The new YMCA recreation and wellness center features a 10-lane indoor pool, two gymnasiums, locker rooms, aerobics rooms, cardiovascular area, free-weight room, multi-purpose community rooms, child care area, games room, administrative areas, and an outdoor pool. HSMM designers used an open design approach to the building's fitness center, arranging workout machines in a bay that overlooks the central reception area. The entire space is lit by a large pyramidal skylight.

Because the new center is located on a gateway property, the HSMM team developed a design that is sensitive to the site's visibility and prominence. Building materials and the pyramidal skylight of the facility's roof respond to the surrounding topography and create a harmonious union between the facility and the landscape. The new YMCA is a highly successful facility, and has become a focal point for the Franklin County community.
