Knightdale Environmental Education Park
Knightdale, NC
A sense of adventure greets each new visitor to Knightdale Environmental Education Park. Working closely with the town, HSMM developed a Master Plan and design documents for the 8-acre park that includes a trail system to interconnect the town municipal buildings and elementary school and offers a variety of outdoor classroom areas along the trail. In addition to the new trails, the park includes information kiosks, learning stations, benches, picnic tables, docks, wetland boardwalks, and observation platforms.

Designed to educate the community in wetlands plants, wildlife, and water quality issues, the park offers a variety of interesting things to see and do as visitors explore the system of trails. Visitors can access the environmental park from several locations and observe storm water entering the park, filtering through the wetlands to the pond, and exiting into a large wetlands area. The park received a 2004 Merit Award from the American Society of Landscape Architects. |
