Rails to Trails Conversion
Town of Warrenton, VA
Warrenton, Virginia is a railroad town with a rich history, and Town officials have taken steps to preserve its historical elements for the community and visitors to enjoy. As part of this preservation program, the Town retained HSMM to program and design the conversion of an aging railroad right-of-way to a linear park. The park offers hiking and biking trails against a backdrop that commemorates Warrenton's rail heritage. HSMM designed the trailhead to emulate the bustling railroad station it once was, placing antique railroad cars through the trailhead, recalling that bygone era.
This 1.8-mile-long segment of the trail is the first of several that will eventually terminate miles down the line in Culpeper, Virginia.
