Soil and Groundwater Investigation, Chemol
Greensboro, NC
HSMM provided environmental consulting services for Chemol Company, Inc., in Greensboro, North Carolina. The industrial site had experienced releases of petroleum hydrocarbons, the alcohols methanol and n-butanol, and the Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) toluene from Underground Storage Tanks (USTs). HSMM managed the tank closure work at the site with closely spaced tanks and utilities that needed to stay in service.
The project also involved installation of groundwater monitoring wells, soil and groundwater sampling, evaluation of an existing Soil Vapor Extraction (SVE) system, and regulatory reporting.
HSMM was contracted to continue work at the site to horizontally and vertically delineate soil and groundwater quality, evaluate hydraulic conductivity using slug testing, and to provide information and regulatory guidance through the corrective action phase.
The Corrective Action Plan included the use of pneumatic soil fracturing to enhance groundwater recovery for pumping to the municipal sewage system or to an existing on-site treatment system.
HSMM has also performed continuing Air Emissions Inventory reporting for Chemol.
