Route 42

HSMM provided roadway design services for improvements to 8.2 miles of Route 42 north of the City of Harrisonburg.  At this location, Route 42 passes through mostly rural, rolling farming landscape in the Shenandoah Valley.  The project utilized the existing highway for two lanes of this four-lane divided highway where alignment and grade were acceptable.  A short section was developed entirely on a new location in order to bypass the town of Edom.

The project required development of road construction plans including drainage design and right-of-way plans.

HSMM also prepared landscaping plans for enhancement of two historical sites adjacent to the highway.

Improvements in the Town of Broadway included the upgrading of intersections and the installation of curb and gutter.
